The Scholastic Quest Olympiads comprise 2 level MCQ based examinations:

Scholastic Maths Olympiad:

Eligibility: 2nd to 9th standard students of schools affiliated to any board can appear for the Scholastic Maths Olympiad. Students can only appear for the exam for the class in which they are studying at present.

Syllabus: The syllabus is designed in accordance with the syllabi of State / ICSE / CBSE boards for each standard. Being a competitive exam, some questions may be general in nature, which test the overall aptitude of the student.

Other details: The level 1 test has 40 multiple choice questions, to be answered in 1 hour. There is no negative marking. The test comprises challenging problems which test the students’ mathematical ability. Students who have a knack of problem solving and are good with short cut methods stand a better chance.

Based on the score in the level 1 test, the top 10% students qualify for the level 2 test.

The level 2 test has 25 multiple choice questions, to be answered in 1 hour. The level 2 test has negative marking; each correct answer fetches 4 marks and 1 mark is deducted for each wrong answer. The questions in the level 2 test would me more challenging and are not necessarily limited by a prescribed syllabus or a predefined pattern.

 

Scholastic English Olympiad:

Eligibility: 2nd to 9th standard students of schools affiliated to any board can appear for the Scholastic English Olympiad. Students can only appear for the exam for the class in which they are studying at present.

Syllabus: The syllabus is designed in accordance with the syllabi of State / ICSE / CBSE boards for each standard. Detailed syllabus for each standard is given elsewhere on this website.

Other details:The level 1 test has 40 multiple choice questions, to be answered in 45 minutes. There is no negative marking.The questions test the grammar, vocabulary, sentence construction and reading comprehension of the student.

Based on the score in the level 1 test, the top 10% students qualify for the level 2 test.

The level 2 test has 25 multiple choice questions, to be answered in 45minutes. The level 2 test has negative marking; each correct answer fetches 4 marks and 1 mark is deducted for each wrong answer. The questions in the level 2 test would me more challenging and are not necessarily limited by a prescribed syllabus or a predefined pattern.

Syllabus: The syllabus is designed in accordance with the syllabi of State / ICSE / CBSE boards for each standard. Being a competitive exam, some questions may be general in nature, which test the overall aptitude of the student.

Other details: The level 1 test has 40 multiple choice questions, to be answered in 45 minutes. There is no negative marking.The test comprises application oriented, thought provoking questions. The questions test the understanding, concept clarity and logical reasoning of a student rather than knowledge retention and memory.

Based on the score in the level 1 test, the top 10% students qualify for the level 2 test.

The level 2 test has 25 multiple choice questions, to be answered in 45 minutes. The level 2 test has negative marking; each correct answer fetches 4 marks and 1 mark is deducted for each wrong answer. The questions in the level 2 test would me more challenging and are not necessarily limited by a prescribed syllabus or a predefined pattern.

 

Salient features of the exams conducted by ScAE:

Examination papers: The examination papers are set by a panel of eminent educationists who are highly qualified and well-regarded in their respective fields. The examination comprises a variety of questions with varying difficulty levels. Some questions would challenge bright minds while a few simple questions would ensure that the average student doesn't feel discouraged.

Timely announcement of results: Results will be announced on the council website, within 45 days of the exam. All certificates, trophies, mementoes would be subsequently sent to the respective schools.

Examination Centres: The Level 1 test would be conducted in your school (if your school is participating in the ScAE Olympiads). If your school is not an examination centre, students may opt to give the exam in other centres.The level 2 test is conducted at select few centres managed by ScAE.

Study Material: The question bank (with answers) is published by the institute and can be purchased online. Price of each book is 100 Students may also use the State Board/ICSE/CBSE textbooks for their preparation for the Olympiads.

 

Registration fee (for each subject examination) is 150/- There is no separate fee for level 2.

Schools may choose the dates for conducting the Level 1 examination, from the two options given above for each Olympiad.

Rules and Regulations:
  1. A student is allowed to appear for the exams only for the standard in which he/she is currently studying.
  2. Once the examination date and timing are finalised no requests for change in schedule will be entertained.
  3. Forms given after the last date for submission will attract a late fee of 50/- (per examination). We reserve the right to refuse forms after the last date.
  4. We try our best to allot each student to an Examination Centre near his/her residence.
  5. Under certain unavoidable circumstances, ScAE reserves the right to change the dates/centre of examination.
  6. Students will not be allowed to enter the exam hall if he/she is late by more than 5 minutes beyond the announced starting time of the exam.
  7. If a student is found indulging in unfair practices during the examination (talking, copying, passing sheets, etc.) he will be immediately expelled from the centre and no request for fee refund will be entertained.
  8. If a particular student wishes to have his/her paper rechecked, he/she may give an application through our website with a fee of 100/- If there is a revision in the marks secured, the fee of 100/- is refunded.
  9. For students who qualify for the level 2 examination, any expenses incurred against travelling, lodging, etc. if any, must be borne by the student.
Rules for breaking a tie:
  • In case of a tie in Level 2 marks, Level 1 marks in that subject will be considered to break the tie.
  • If Level 1 marks are also same, student having lesser number of wrong answers in Level 2 will be given higher rank.
  • If number of wrong answers in Level 2 is also the same, both students will be given same rank.
Rewards and Recognition:
  1. Cash prize of Rs.1000/- to the topper in each subject in the Level 2 exam.
  2. Cash prize of Rs.500/- and Rs.300/- to the second and third rankers in each subject.
  3. Trophies - To the top 3 rank holders in each class in each subject.
  4. Medals to all Zonal toppers in each subject.
  5. Meritorious Performance Certificates to all students who qualify for level 2 Examinations.
  6. Every participating student gets a Certificate cum Performance Report.
  7. In the event of more than 10 students from your school appearing for an exam from one class, the school topper gets a Gold Medal. (subject to minimum 50% marks in Level 1 exam).
  8. In the event of more than 20 students from your school appearing for an exam from one class, one Gold Medal and one Silver Medal is assured for the top 2 performers in each examination (subject to minimum 50% marks in Level 1 exam).
